Sightseeing in Moere and Romsdal

NORDMØRE

is the most northerly part of the county Moere and Romsdal. The main town here is Kristiansund , a modern town right on the coast. Like the other two towns in the county, Kristiansund has an airport, is a port of call on the Hurtigruten, and is a collection point for all the long distance traffic from the surrounding district.
Built on a number of islands Kristiansund, from 1992 is connected to the mainland by an advanced system of bridges and tunnels (Krifast).

Both the Tinvoll peninsula and Gjemnes are connected to Kristiansund via Bergsoy. Among the villages which can offer facilities of towns we can name, the group of villages on the west
side of the island Smola, Aure, Engjan, Sunndalsoera, Tingvoll, Eide and Batnfjordsoera.

Nordmoere has good roads northwards to Trondheim. From Oslo and the east of Norway this district is easily reached via Oppdal and Sunndalsoera. It is also easy to drive to the other parts of Moere and Romsdal. Many of the roads in Nordmoere are more than just roads and have many things of interest along the way. The new Atlanterhavsveien between Averoy and Vevang has become very popular with tourists.

The islands in the west are fairly flat, but the mainland rises quickly to impressive altitudes. Renowed in the walking and climbing fraternity are Litledalen, Innerdalen and Trollheimen . These names are as well known outside Norway as they are to Norwegians. These mountains have overshadowed the lesser mountains here, among them those on the island of Stabben.

There are several well known salmon rivers in the valleys, which strech inland through the fertile farmland and woods of Nordmoere. There are few who will be disappointed with the angling among the island in west Nordmoere.

The island of Grip until a few years ago with over a hundred inhabitants, but now uninhabited is worth a visit for those interested in culture, as are the museums, churches etc.

ROMSDAL

is the name for the district around Romsdalsfjord and for the valley whitch runs south-east from town Aandalsnes. The Town of Roses, Molde, is the capital of Romsdal. Molde is also famous for the annual Jazz Festival and for the view southwards to th emountains on the other side of the fjord.

An important ferry goes from Molde to Vestnes for connections to the road no.9 which goes from Aalesund to Dombaas, where it joins the E6 road to Oslo. Molde has also good routes northwards to Kristiansund and Trondheim. As is the case in the whole country of Moere and Romsdal, the road and ferry system is very well developed.

The next most important town in Romsdal is Aandalsnes at the end of Rauma railway, with connections to Oslo, and the river Rauma where salmon fishing can be had at reasonable prices. Among the other larger villages are Tresfjord/Vestnes, Tomrefjord, Midsund, Aukra, Bud, Elnesvaagen, Eidsvaag, Eresfjord and Isfjord.

To arrive in Romsdal by either car or train is an unforgettable experience. Especially in the spring when the snow begins to melt and the valleys begin to waken in all their coulors. Nerly vertical mountainssides with waterfalls falling several hundred metres down a cliff to the valley floor. Romsdal is a mountaineers paradise and all who see the world famous Trollveggen will be amazed that anybody dare try and climb it. It was an Englishman Slingsby who first began climbing here, after the Alps became easy and overcrowded.

One of the greatest attractions in the district is the Trollstigen road over to Valldal in Sunnmoere, this is not for the faint-hearted, but one of Europes most exciting drives.

A quick resume of some of the points of interests here: the birthplace of Bjoernson at Nesset, the medievel church of Veoy, the island of Ona, the limestone caves in Tverrfjella in Fraena and all the things of interest in Molde. The outdoor activities in Romsdal are the same as for the rest of the country of Moere and Romsdal; the sea angling is good to exellent, and there are plenty of rivers and lakes for trout and salmon fishing. Walking in woods or on the mountains is first class.

Myra Turist has made a collectoin containing information of all these attractions. Here we have described the driving route to the destinations, maps, pictures and attractions along the route, how far it is and how mucht time you need to see everything. All this you will find in your apartment.

From Angvik you can reach many sights by car, foot or by boat. In a circle of less than one and a half hours drive from our apartments you have about 25 different sights to visit. Briefly we can mention:

Trollstigen and Trolltindene in Romsdalen/Åndalsnes.
